job description 

The Associate Pastor to Students and Worship is a full time staff position primarily responsible for leading and overseeing both the student ministry and the worship services, working closely with the Senior Pastor to cultivate spiritual growth and engagement among young people while facilitating meaningful worship experiences for the entire congregation; this role involves leading student programs, developing worship teams, teaching Bible studies, providing pastoral care to students, and collaborating with other church leaders to integrate student ministry into the broader church community. Must adhere to the policies and beliefs outlined in the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

Student Ministry:

  1. Develop and implement engaging student ministry programs including small groups, discipleship initiatives, social events, retreats, and mission trips, tailored to different age groups within the student body.

  2. Work with the Pastor to communicate the student ministry program through: Engaging students in discipleship on a weekly basis through Bible study and activities including but not limited to Wednesday and Sunday School. 

  3. Meet regularly with the Pastor for prayer, planning and assistance in program development and strategy as needed. Plan activities with the purpose of fellowship, evangelism, and discipleship.

  4. Recruit, train, and equip a team of student ministry volunteers to effectively lead and mentor students.

  5. Provide individual spiritual guidance, counseling, and support to students and their families.

  6. Foster strong relationships with parents by communicating regularly, providing opportunities for parental involvement, and supporting their role in their child's spiritual development.

  7. Produce a workable budget and adhere to the budget. 

  8. Participate in the overall ministry of the church as requested by the Pastor.

  9. This position is full time requiring 40 hours minimum a week. Some weeks may require additional hours. The church understands the uniqueness of ministerial care provided at uncertain times and adjustments in scheduling may occur. The church also understands prayer and Bible study may take place outside the church office. 

 

Worship Ministry: 

  1. Collaborate with the worship team to plan and lead engaging worship services, selecting music, incorporating relevant themes, and ensuring a balanced worship experience.

  2. Recruit, train, and oversee the worship team, including vocalists, musicians, and technical staff.

  3. Lead congregational prayer, scripture readings, and announcements during worship services.

  4. Incorporate traditional and contemporary elements to enhance the worship experience.

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver sermons and Bible studies for students and the wider congregation as needed.

  2. Work closely with the Senior Pastor and other ministry leaders to align student and worship ministries with the overall church vision.

  3. Participate in community engagement initiatives and outreach programs to connect with potential students and families.

  4. Manage student ministry budgets, maintain records, and prepare reports.

 

Qualifications:

  1. A deep personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to biblical teachings.

  2. Knowledge and skills in the philosophy, psychology and principles of Christian Education. Experience preferred, although not required. 

  3. Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, build relationships, and effectively manage projects.

  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively teach, preach, and connect with people of different ages.

  5. Musical skills, including singing or playing an instrument, are beneficial for leading worship.

  6. Proven experience working with adolescents in a church setting, preferably in student ministry leadership roles.

  7. Ability to exercise initiative and judgement as an independent worker. 

  8. Possess organizational and administrative abilities. 

  9. Ability to respond to changing needs throughout the daily and weekly schedule.
