Pastor's Welcome

Welcome to our site. If you are looking for a church home, or simply a place to visit while on vacation, we hope you find the information here helpful. We exist for God. We believe that He made us to know Him personally through the person and work of His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In everything we do together, whether we are singing His praises or hearing His Word, loving one another or sharing His love with our neighbors, we do it all for His glory. He is the reason we are here.

We are a Bible-believing body of believers located in paradise. Our setting has its drawbacks and its opportunities. One drawback is what some locals like to call "island time". (Stick around and you'll understand.) Other drawbacks are the beautiful white sand beaches and tropical weather. These can be distractions for some. Also, you won't find many suits. We are just a little bit casual, but we like it that way. As for the opportunities, all I can say is wow. God is at work here, and we are truly thankful. Spiritual thirst and loving service characterize everything we do. And, He continues to bring committed believers into our family.

It is a blessing to serve God in this place. As part of our service to the Lord here in Gulf Shores, we would love to minister to you. Or, have you minister to us as we serve God together. Whether it is Lagoon Baptist Church or somewhere else, we pray that God would show you where he would have you worship and serve Him. Hope to see you this Sunday!

Soli Deo Gloria (To God alone be the glory),

Bro. Steve Dumas

About Steve

Since August 2008, Steve has served as pastor of Lagoon Baptist Church.

He graduated from the University of Mobile with a B.A. in Religion and studied at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky for two years. In 1995, Steve was licensed to the ministry at Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister in 2005. Steve has been in gospel ministry since 1991, as pastor since 1998. He has pastored churches in Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky.

James (2003), Steve, Daniel (2007), and Lydia (2005); Not pictured: Paula, Patricia (1994), Trent (1998), Hannah (2000), and Zoe (2008).Steve and his wife, Paula, were high school sweethearts and have been married since 1992. They have seven children, four girls and three boys. Interestingly, the birth order is girl, boy, girl, boy, girl, boy, girl. Yet more evidence of the sovereignty of God. Oh, yeah, the family dogs, Penny the Pug and Roxy the Pom, believe there are six girls in the family.

Steve loves family time, especially going to the beach with his kids. He also enjoys going to their ball games and kicking back with Trent to watch Auburn football. Steve and Trent are lifelong fans of the Auburn Tigers.

Just a little about myself:   Born in Foley, AL , my family moved to Plaquemines Parish, LA when I was one.  I grew up in Buras and later as an adult moved to Port Sulphur, a few miles "up the road."   I began attending Port Sulphur Baptist Church in 1993. Shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005,  I moved to Gulf Shores near my parents and relatives.

I began my church secretary career here at Lagoon Baptist Church February 2006.  I love this ministry because it provides me an opportunity to contribute to the overall ministries of the church.    What a blessing!!

If I can serve you in any way, please do not hesitate to call the church office at 251-968-7057.
